WAJ Joins the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice!

World Animal Justice Makes a Giant Step: Advancing the Fight Against Animal Crimes in the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

WAJ joins the Alliance on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice: A Historic Milestone for Criminal Animal Justice

World Animal Justice (WAJ) is proud to announce that we have joined the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice—an unprecedented achievement for the global animal protection movement. As the first and only NGO specializing in combating all forms of crimes against animals to be accepted into this influential alliance, WAJ has taken a giant step forward in advancing criminal animal justice on the international stage.

While a few wildlife-focused organizations have been part of this alliance, WAJ stands alone as the first organization addressing the full spectrum of crimes against animals—including wildlife trafficking, factory farming, and mass killings—to gain legitimate status within this critical coalition. This recognition elevates the fight for animals to new heights, ensuring that crimes against them are treated with the urgency and seriousness they deserve.

A Game-Changing Membership: Why It Matters

Our acceptance into the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice signifies a transformative moment for animals. As part of this global coalition, WAJ gains access to an influential platform that addresses international crime prevention and justice. This allows us to:

  • Integrate Animal Justice into Global Crime Prevention: Bring crimes against animals, in all their forms, into discussions that shape international policies and frameworks.
  • Collaborate Across Sectors: Work with leading organizations, law enforcement agencies, and policymakers to tackle the criminal networks responsible for criminal animal exploitation and extermination.
  • Influence International Law: Advocate for the recognition of crimes against animality as legitimate crimes to be enshrined in international criminal law.

The Scope of Crimes Against Animals: A Global Crisis

WAJ combats crimes against “animality”—a term that highlights the gravity of systemic abuses inflicted on animals worldwide. These crimes include:

  • Wildlife Trafficking: A multi-billion-dollar illegal industry that devastates ecosystems and endangers countless species.
  • Factory Farming: The torture, mass killing, and sequestration of billions of sentient beings, amounting to some of the most severe abuses in human history.
  • Mass Killings and Torture: Perpetrated against trillions of animals each year in various industries, these atrocities demand international recognition as criminal acts.

These crimes share striking parallels with the worst crimes against humanity already prohibited under international law. By addressing these atrocities, WAJ seeks to bridge the gap between the protection afforded to humans and that owed to animals, pushing for a world where all sentient beings are safeguarded from exploitation and abuse.

UNTOC COP12: Laying the Groundwork

As part of our mission, WAJ has also secured observer status with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), allowing us to participate in key forums like the UNTOC COP12. Ahead to our groundbreaking Alliance membership, this participation at UNTOC COP12 led us to join this influencial Alliance. At UNTOC, WAJ is standing for the following:

  • The Need for Legal Recognition: Advocating for the inclusion of crimes against animals in international crime frameworks.
  • Global Collaboration: Working with governments and NGOs to address the intersections between animal crimes and transnational organized crime.
  • Stronger Protections for Animals: Calling for enforceable international laws that address all forms of animal exploitation.

Breaking News: A Historic First for Animals and Justice

WAJ’s acceptance into the Alliance marks the first time an NGO focusing on all forms of crimes against animals has been recognized within this prominent international framework. This is not just a win for WAJ—it is a watershed moment for the entire animal protection and criminal animal justice movement.

Our inclusion validates the idea that crimes against animals—whether wildlife trafficking, factory farming, or systemic abuse—are not isolated issues but integral to the global fight against organized crime. WAJ’s unique perspective, encompassing all forms of animal crimes, fills a critical gap in the Alliance’s efforts, ensuring animals are no longer sidelined in conversations about justice and crime prevention.

What’s Next for WAJ and the Fight Against Animal Crimes?

As we embrace this new chapter, WAJ is committed to:

  • Expanding the Recognition of Animal Crimes: Advocating for their inclusion in international crime prevention frameworks like UNTOC.
  • Strengthening Global Enforcement: Partnering with law enforcement agencies to build capacity for addressing all forms of animal crimes.
  • Unifying the Animal Justice Movement: Bringing together advocates from wildlife protection, farmed animal welfare, and anti-cruelty organizations to create a cohesive front against animal crimes.

Join Us in This Historic Movement

WAJ’s membership in the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice is a historic victory for animals.
